The Town of Fairview was incorporated in 1958 with a population of 50. Since that time, it has grown steadily to today's population of almost 9,000. Fairview’s Comprehensive Plan is a well-crafted Commercial Planned Development District (CPDD) area of over 800 acres strategically located east of U.S. Highway 75 and west of State Highway 5. The CPDD offers unique zoning that allows for commercial, retail, single-family and multi-family uses. The Village at Fairview, a mixed use lifestyle center, provides over 500,000 square feet of upscale retail space, quality restaurants, and a live/work environment with residential above the retail units.

The Fairview Soccer Complex occupies 74 acres of land owned by The Town of Fairview and leased to the Aysses Soccer Club is designed to attract teams from all over the world to come to compete. When fully built out, this complex will have not only have world class soccer fields, but also housing for elite soccer players as they come to the Fairview area to hone their playing skills. This top of the line facility will also be home to a park, an amphitheater and walking trails while offering space for local recreational soccer.
Fairview is served by two excellent public school districts. The Lovejoy Independent School District serves students in the cities of Fairview and Lucas, plus parts of Allen and Wylie, with three elementary schools, a middle school and Lovejoy High School. Puster Elementary School is located on Stoddard Road in Fairview. The new Sloan Creek Middle School, also in Fairview, is on FM 1378 (Country Club Road). The McKinney Independent School District serves the western end of Fairview and a small area in the far northeast.
